A unique series of school curriculum materials featuring Britain’s road transport heritage, has been launched to schools throughout the North West in an initiative mounted by the British Commercial Vehicle Museum in Leyland Lancashire and supported by Lawtec and Partnership Link.
Prepared by three Lancashire primary school teachers, the curriculum materials are designed for use in conjunction with a visit to the museum and follow-up work in the classroom. These materials are being offered free of charge with each group visit to the Museum by primary schools in the North West.
The Museum Trust has one other important area of activity. This is the preservation of a huge collection of archives on the commercial vehicle industry. This collection of literature and historic photographic and film material is of exceptional size and nature.
Some idea of the scale of the archive can be gained from the fact that after several years of intensive archiving work by dedicated volunteers, much of the material has still to be properly archived.
