Activities

1066 and all that... (2hrs)
Key Stages 2 and 3
Join Henry de Brocas as he takes your pupils on an exciting journey through one of history's most important years - 1066. Through dynamic hands on participation your pupils will explore and be an active part of 1066. They will witness the rise and fall of the last Anglo Saxon king, to be party to the invasion of both Vikings and Normans, participate in three battles and explore the Norman war machine.

Your pupils will then use the skills that they have learned by designing and making armour... for an egg! They will then test their armour using the ancient method of the "Long Drop" to see who is crowned "Champion of the Egg.

Castles and Keeps (2hrs)
Key Stages 1, 2 and 3
Follow an historical tour of the Norman keep and find out how to defend a castle whilst taking in the spectacular views over Clitheroe and the surrounding area. Then get to grips with a range of exciting, hands on activities that will utilise a range of cross curricular skills. Build your own Motte and Bailey castle utilising key ideas you have learnt on the tour.

Museum Tour (1hr)
Key Stages 1, 2 and 3
Take either a self led or guided tour of the museum and see highlights of the different galleries. The tour can be tailored to complement the rest of your visit. Clitheroe Castle is set in sixteen acres of parkland. You and your pupils can tuck into your packed lunches against the backdrop of the Norman Keep (weather permitting of course!)
