Through active participation, role play and object handling sessions, your pupils will discover over 1000 years of local history - from Viking settlers to Lancaster and Morecambe's rich maritime past and its involvement in the Transatlantic Slave Trade. They can also learn about the history of the Lancaster Canal and the important traditions of fishing in Morecambe Bay and the perils of crossing the sands.

The Vikings are Coming! (2hrs) Key Stages 1 and 2

They will be invited into the heart of the settlement then taken to the home of Linden; she will demonstrate the Viking way of life and offer children the opportunity to participate directly in the home life and daily work chores of the 'Lancashire' settlement. They will also meet a Viking Warrior who will instruct them in all things Viking' farming, crafts, wood-working, sailing, navigation and fighting! These sessions are fully hands on and extremely entertaining taking your pupils on a journey where they experience life in Lancashire over 1000 years ago!

Trade, People, Profits (2hrs) Key Stages 2 and 3
Your pupils will follow a local history trail that takes them through the Museums Custom House and outside along the Quayside. They will follow in the footsteps of Lancaster's forgotten past and its involvement in the Transatlantic Slave Trade. This session also covers other aspects of Lancaster's local history and development. The Museum is keen to work with local schools wishing to develop their delivery of the Transatlantic Slave Trade.
