Leisure and Tourism
Ness Botanic Gardens has been a favourite day out for schools across the North West for a long time. We have a wealth of plant and pond life within a safe environment.
By using our Education Services you get the most of your visit.
Trained guides with teaching or horticultural backgrounds will take you on a guided tour. These often include games, hands-on activities and question/answer sessions making learning fun
These will be confirmed if the Gardens and a guide are available. Please provide a choice of dates as summer is especially busy.
Visits can be made throughout the year to compare seasonal variations in the Gardens. When booking, you will be asked for your topic requirements and class details to enable us to tailor your day.
Facilities for Schools
There is ample coach parking on-site, toilets (disabled toilet), a play area and picnic benches. Lunch box storage and wet weather cover is provided.A free teacher's pre-visit to view the facilities is strongly recommended.
Our dipping pond can deliver all areas of Sc2 Life Processes & Living Things. A pond dip will cover Variation & Classification (identification and grouping) and Living Things in their Environment (adaptation and food chains).
We have a Weather Station within the Gardens.
Another favourite is the Laburnum Arch and Herb Garden, where poisons, medicines and food flavourings are discussed. We can offer self-guided Maths Trails that you might wish to use as part of your visit.
